Get the Most Out of Watering Your Lawn

Proper watering is critical to having a beautiful and lush lawn. It provides essential nutrients to the grass, encourages growth and development, and deters weeds and pests from growing. To keep your lawn well-irrigated, we offer many useful tips below that will allow you to enjoy a vibrantly green yard throughout the year:

Lawns should receive approximately 1" to 1 1/2" of water per week. Deep watering to a depth of 6" is recommended. Watering that only dampens the grass can harm your lawn.

Best Time

Watering your lawn in the early morning is the best. When you water in the middle of the day, a lot of water is wasted due to evaporation. Watering in the evening invites fungus into your lawn.

Signs of Lack of Water

The grass turns a silvery blue in areas and will turn brown if not watered soon. If footprints clearly remain in the lawn, this is another indicator that water is needed.

Other Watering Tips for Lawns:

  1. Give special attention to hot spots in your lawn that dry out quickly.
  2. Allow the soil to completely dry before watering again. This will help reduce the risk of lawn fungus.
  3. Splitting your normal watering duration into two watering cycles one hour apart will reduce water runoff and waste.
