How often should I mow my lawn?
Usually mowing
once a week is sufficient. However, when lawns grow more rapidly, you
may need to mow more often to avoid cutting off more than 1/3 of the
length of the grass blades.
How high should I mow?
Using
one of the higher settings on your mower will give the best results.
You should never cut off more than 1/3 of the length of the grass blades
in a single mowing. This makes sure that you don't scalp the lawn.
Recommended mowing heights
Fescue 1 1/2" - 2 1/2"
Bluegrass 1 1/2" - 2 1/2"
Ryegrass 1 1/2" - 2 1/2"
Bermuda 1/2" - 2"
Zoysiagrass 3/4" - 2"
Other tips
Keeping
the mower blade is very important. A dull blade tears the end of the
grass blades, causing it to turn brown later. This type of grass blade
damage contributes to the spread of fungus.
Mow in a different
direction each time you mow to avoid ruts in the lawn. This also
prevents the grass from leaning to one direction.
Use sidewalks and driveways, when possible, to make turns with the mower.
Mowing a wet lawn can invite fungus into your lawn and could give you an uneven cut.
